Wem
Wem is part of North East Shropshire Branch made up of Market Drayton, Whitchurch, Wem and Shawbury, and surrounding villages. Party members are able to attend meetings, usually held on the first Friday of the month, at the Beacon Community Centre in Market Drayton. The Branch Secretary is David Evans.
Party membership in Wem has grown so much since the Election in 2015 that Wem Labour Supporters, an informal group of Labour Party members and supporters in and around the town, meet regularly to share ideas, support and actions: they maintain a closed Facebook Group, which members and supporters can join on request, and can be contacted through the Branch or CLP Secretaries. Discussions are under way about Wem becoming a separate Branch, and we are currently awaiting approval of this from Regional Office.

Wem Town Hall packed for film about the welfare state
Almost 120 people attended a showing of Ken Loach's documentary Spirit of '45 last night (April 27th) at Wem Town Hall organised by Wem Labour Members and Supporters group.
'We were overwhelmed by the response, ' said event organisers, 'and delighted to see so many younger people in the audience'.
The film tells how the spirit of fairness and cooperation which took Britain through WW2 was used by the 1945 Labour Government to create the NHS, the welfare state and public ownership of 'natural monopolies' like water, railways, power, creating employment and prosperity despite wartime economic debt.
Public sector union Unison's regional secretary Ravi Subramanian (married to Labour Shadow Cabinet Minister for Transport Lillian Greenwood) came from Birmingham to introduce the film, alongside North Shropshire Labour Party activist Graeme Currie. Gill George of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Defend our NHS told the audience about the threat to life and health posed in Shropshire by the now discredited Future Fit scheme to close an A&E department, and the campaign to save the NHS in rural counties.
£100 was collected in a raffle for a copy of the film DVD signed by Ken Loach,
Wem Labour Members and Supporters group is an informal voluntary group which aims to raise awareness about democratic participation and social justice.
